Alan's areas of expertise include income- and estate-tax planning, business and investment planning for business owners, and financial/investment planning pertaining to marriage and divorce. Prior to his affiliation with ASI, Alan founded Rothstein & Company, LLC, Certified Public Accountants. He holds BS and MS degrees in accounting and has earned a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS®) designation from the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA®).

Alan was listed as one of the "100 Great Financial Planners" by Mutual Fundsmagazine. In addition, he was named one of the "Top 250 Financial Advisors in the United States" by Worth.  He was honored by the AICPA® as a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award of the Personal Financial Planning Division.

Alan has lectured nationally on business development, retirement planning, and financial goal setting for high-net-worth and self-employed individuals. Professionally, he serves on financial planning committees for the AICPA® and chairs the Investment Committee of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA®).  He is a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), the All-Star Financial Group, and the State CPA® Societies of Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts.

Alan is active with the Probus Club of Greater Hartford, which provides hands-on support for mentally challenged adults, and he is a past president of The Box Project, a national organization assisting impoverished families. Alan lives in Avon, Connecticut, with his spouse Marilyn, a writer. His daughters—Sharyn Rothstein, a playwright, and Marisa Rothstein, an attorney—live in New York City.
