Joel H. Framson founded Silver Oak Wealth Advisors to bring a consultative approach to long-term strategic planning. Joel has been in the financial arena since 1974 when he was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant. He got his Series 7 and General Securities licenses in 1986 and became a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) in 1992 when he established Silver Oak Advisory Group. Available only to CPAs, he earned the Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation as conferred by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 1994, and in the same year became a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) practitioner. He has a BS in Accounting from the University of Bridgeport and a Masters of Business Taxation from the University of Southern California.
Joel recently served three years as the national Chair of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Personal Financial Planning Executive Committee. Joel served on the California CPA Society Council and on the Board of Directors of its L.A. Chapter. He is a Past Chairman of both the L.A. Chapter and State Personal Financial Planning Committee of the California Society of CPAs. Prior to that position, he was the Chair of the AICPA Center for Investment Advisory Services Subcommittee. In that role, he lead the project culminating in the publication of "Prudent Investment Practices - A Handbook for Investment Fiduciaries". In addition to his continuous membership in the AICPA and CalCPA society, Joel is also a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA).
Joel is a recipient of American Institute of CPA’s 2002 Distinguished Service Award for lifetime achievements and contributions to the Financial Planning Division.
He has often appeared as an expert witness in litigation involving fiduciary standards of care. His testimony has helped delineate the role of Independent Advisors as Fiduciary throughout the state. He has been a featured speaker in numerous national and state conferences to attorneys and CPAs. Joel has appeared on CNNfn and numerous radio programs. He is frequently quoted in local and national publications including The Wall Street Journal, Financial Planning Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, MSN.com, BusinessWeek.com, Bloomberg Wealth Manager, Physician’s Personal Advisory, Senior Market Advisor, Practical Accountant, Accounting Today, Newsweek, and AARP Bulletin. He was named by Worth Magazine in 2004 and 2005 as one of the nation’s top 100 Wealth Managers.
Joel lives in Los Angeles with his family and enjoys fine wines and side trips to the wine country of Napa, Sonoma and the Central Coast.
