Norman Berk is a partner in Berk Cleveland Rathmell Wealth Strategies, a fee-only financial planning and asset management firm and specializes in offering retirement and college fund planning services to individuals and businesses. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, a Registered Investment Advisor, a Certified Public Accountant and an attorney, the only fee-only financial planner in the state of Alabama to hold all four designations.

Norman began his career in the financial services industry more than 30 years ago after completing undergraduate work at the City University of New York, a law degree at Syracuse University and successfully sitting for the CPA® and bar exams. His first position was with a Big Eight accounting firm in New York where he worked until being transferred to their Birmingham office. Norman left the accounting firm in 1973 to form his own company before moving and co-founding Berk Patterson, PC in 1980. He is also a co-founder of the All-Star Financial Group, a nationwide network of financial planning CPAs. Both firms remain highly successful to this day.

After spending many years working with and managing large firms, Norman realized that a need existed in the marketplace for highly qualified professionals specializing in offering personalized financial planning services to individuals and businesses. Accordingly, he completed a rigorous course of study to obtain the prestigious CFP® designation and also satisfied the requirements to become credentialed as a Registered Investment Advisor by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Says Norman, "I've certainly played in the big leagues, but I've reached that point in my life where my greatest satisfaction comes from helping people achieve the financial security they need to retire as they would like, and helping them plan for their children's college educations."

A testament to his standing in the financial planning field, Norman has been quoted by several prestigious publications, most recently the December 2000 issue of Bloomberg Wealth Manager. He has also been twice included in Worth Magazines list of top financial planners in the nation and listed as one of the most influential financial planners in Birminghamby the Birmingham Business Journal. The August,2002 issue of Accounting Today named Normanas one of the top 50 people to know in the world of financial planning.  He is active in the community having served on the boards of several civic organizations, including the Greater Birmingham Area Girl Scout Council. He is founder, treasurer and board member of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama, Inc., and has been a Big Brother. He also has served as the President of Temple, which has recently taken the unusual step of asking him back to serve as the chair of the Finance Committee.

Norman and his wife Phyllis have been married for 35 wonderful years, have three children and one grandchild. When he can find the time, he plays highly handicapped golf.
